Walk Away from Drugs

Walk Away from Drugs

Get ready to stride with pride for the 9th Annual “Walk Away from Drugs” (and 5K run) on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, hosted by the Bullhead City Police & Fire Departments during Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program nationwide. The campaign began in 1985 when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena. This incident started the tradition to display and wear red ribbons as a symbol of intolerance toward the use of drugs. We encourage all participants to wear red and hold signs or banners to show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

Walk and 5K run participants gather at Ken Fovargue Park, 2255 Trane Road, at 5 p.m. Walkers and runners must abide by traffic signals and stay on the sidewalk. No pre-registration is necessary.
The walk and 5K run is free! Medals will be awarded to the 5K first place female, male and under 18 runners.

The 5K (3.1 mile) run route will start at Ken Fovargue Park, go south on Trane Rd, west on Marina Blvd, north on Lakeside Dr, east on Hancock Rd, south on Highway 95, west on Marina Blvd, north on Trane Rd and finish back at Ken Fovargue Park.

The 1.5 mile walk will start after the 5K run from Ken Fovargue Park, go south on Trane Rd, west on Marina Blvd, north on Highland Rd, east on Hancock Rd, south on Trane Rd and finish back at Ken Fovargue Park.

The public is also welcome to join the pre-event drug prevention activities at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Colorado River on Wednesday, October 21st at 3 p.m., 2250 Highland Rd. Call (928) 763-1411 for more details.
