Walk Away from Drugs & 5K - October 23rd
The Bullhead City Police and Fire Departments will hold the annual Walk Away from Drugs and 5K run on Wednesday, October 23rd to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.
“We encourage all participants to wear red and hold signs or banners to show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle,” said Community Services Officer Lorrie Duggins. The Red Ribbon campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program nationwide. The campaign began in 1985 when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena. This incident started the tradition to display and wear red ribbons as a symbol of intolerance toward the use of drugs.
Walk and 5K run participants will gather at Ken Fovargue Park, 2255 Trane Road, at around 4:30 p.m. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the 5K runners and walkers will immediately follow. No pre-registration is necessary, and the event is free! Medals will be awarded to the 5K first place female, male, and under 18 runners.
The 5K (3.1 mile) run route will start at Ken Fovargue Park, go south on Trane Rd, west on Marina Blvd, north on Lakeside Dr, east on Hancock Rd, south on Highway 95, west on Marina Blvd, north on Trane Rd and finish back at Ken Fovargue Park.
Swire Coca Cola Bottling Co of Kingman will be providing drinks and water. For more information on the Walk Away from Drugs event, please contact Lorrie Duggins at (928) 763-9200 ext. 8204.

Shop with a Cop
SPIRIT OF GIVING - Each year in December, over 100 children in-need share the spirit of Christmas with public safety personnel at Wal-Mart for our annual Shop with a Cop program.
FOP Santa Sleigh
Santa and his helpers on a sleigh, escorted by police patrol cars, visit with children in neighborhoods throughout Bullhead City during the first two weeks of December.
Kids line up to tell Santa what they want for Christmas and receive a candy cane. The program is free to all families.
This program offered by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #50 has brought so much joy for over 20 years!
National Night Out
National Night Out is America’s largest crime prevention event that enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Thank you to all who came out to support and help strengthen community and police partnerships. This was our 25th year hosting National Night Out with MEC and Bullhead Fire!

Bicycle Safety Rodeo
Thanks to all those who participated in the 28th Annual Carrie Edgmon Bicycle Safety Rodeo, held on March 2nd at Wal-Mart.
The event is sponsored by the Bullhead City Police and Fire Departments, Wal-Mart and Western Arizona Regional Medical Center (WARMC).
Children put their safety skills and knowledge to the test as they rode through several safety courses. Police officers were on hand to teach them the rules of the road.
Participants received a free helmet and free bicycle inspection and tune-up by CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers. A special thanks to the Bullhead City Morning Kiwanis for donating all the bike parts.
Community Connection Events
The Bullhead City Police Department believes it is important to have positive interactions with the public that we serve. These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships, and we hope to make lasting connections.
We've held a 'Coffee with a Cop' event at TASA, celebrated National Donut Day (our favorite day of the year) at the two Bullhead City donut shops and we enjoyed a hot dog at Wienerschnitzel for National Hot Dog Day!
Unique and fun opportunities like these events allow us to build community relationships, bringing police officers and residents together in a relaxed environment.
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. An event like this breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction. It is our hope that these types of events will allow the public to feel more comfortable to ask questions, bring up their concerns or just simply get to know us.
