What is the Victim Advocacy Program and how can it assist me as a victim?

The Victim Advocacy Program is a unit of the Prosecutor’s Office and is supervised by the Victim Services Coordinator.  The Program assists victims of crime and ensures that they are afforded their rights under Arizona’s victims’ rights laws.  The Program explains victims’ rights, how to exercise those rights and how the criminal justice systems works as it relates to victims of crime.  Assistance available includes providing a place for victims to ask questions and express their feelings, preparation of impact statements for court use, assembly of information necessary to seek restitution for economic loss due to injury or property damage and guidance in seeking orders of protection.  The Program also directs victims to other agencies and services available to victims of crime. 

What is the difference between Prosecutor’s Office and Mohave County Attorney’s Office?

The Prosecutor’s Office has responsibility for the prosecution of and review of possible misdemeanor charges for offenses that occur within the city limits and works closely with the Bullhead City Police Department in this responsibility.  The Mohave County Attorney is a county-wide elected official that has responsibility for the prosecution and review of felony charges (such as murder, robbery, sexual assault) through-out the county, including within the city.  The County Attorney also prosecutes misdemeanor offenses which occur outside of the city limits.  The County Attorney also operates its own Victim Advocacy Program which assists victims of the crimes it prosecutes.
