Dear Bullhead City Wastewater Customer,
The Bullhead City Council approved a 5-year graduated rate increase for wastewater customers in 2018. Effective with the August billing cycle for all Bullhead City wastewater customers, the residential sewer rate will increase from $35.55 to $36.26. This is a 2% increase from the prior year. Commercial accounts base rate will also have a small adjustment from $47.02 to $47.96 per commercial account. Until the increase in 2019, the City of Bullhead City had not adjusted residential wastewater rates for 15 years. In fact, in 2003, when the City last adjusted residential rates, the City actually lowered the rate from $33.50 to $31.00. The current fiscal environment requires the City to raise sufficient revenues to invest in its sewer system, install new odor controls, cover increasing electrical and fuel costs, fund costs of employee benefits and compensation, and maintain an appropriate reserve account in the wastewater fund.
Please understand this rate increase was presented to the City Council in 2018 after in- depth study of the entire program. Staff reviewed the overall budget, capital improvement projects, necessary staffing, and essential funds to maintain a safe and efficient wastewater system. The City has an obligation to maintain a top-notch wastewater system. The rate of $36.26 will allow the City to maintain that quality system for years to come.
Please call the Finance Department's Customer Service Center at 928-763-0166 if you have any questions about the rate increase or any other questions regarding your wastewater bill.
I appreciate your continued support of the City and its utility system.
Sincerely,
Toby Cotter
